Diagnostic Testing

Backstrom Chiropractic and Wellness offers a variety of diagnostic testing. Several tests are available and some can even be done in our office.

Saliva Hormone Testing for Women/Men

Do you have any of these symptoms?

Hot flashes, fatigue, night sweats, irregular periods, insomnia, breast tenderness, memory loss, mood swings, increased skin wrinkling, erectile dysfunction, weight gain, low sex drive or anxiety?

All of these can be attributed to a hormone imbalance. The best way to check hormone levels is through saliva. Hormones tested are: estrogen, progesterone, testosterone, DHEA, and cortisol. Your hormones all work together to create an environment of balance and harmony. An imbalance of one can affect all of them. Measuring salivary hormone levels can also indicate the level at which the adrenal glands are functioning.

Vitamin D Blood Drop Testing

Vitamin D is a fat soluble vitamin and pro-hormone that exists in several different forms. Vitamin D2 is not produced in the body and comes from plant sources whereas Vitamin D3 is found in cold water fish such as salmon, mackerel, and sardines. It is manufactured in the skin with adequate exposure to the suns UVB rays.

Vitamin D can also increase intestinal absorption of dietary calcium. It can also increase re-absorption of calcium filtered by the kidneys and mobilizes calcium from bone when there is insufficient dietary calcium.

It has also been said to aid with the function of the immune system and helping control hypertension.

Cost for the Vitamin D Blood Drop Test is: $99*

Omega-3 Fatty Acids

We’ve become conditioned to think of fat as “bad.” Omega-3 fats (technically fatty acids), however, are essential to the human body, and have benefits for our heart brain, eyes, and joints.

By reducing inflammation, blood clots and improving membrane function, omega-3 fats are associated with a lower risk of heart complications – including heart disease, plaque buildup and heart attacks - both in persons with a history of heart disease and in healthy individuals.

Omega-3 fats also seem to be important for optimal brain development in babies, and mental function, particularly later in life. For pregnant women, an intake of omega-3 fats supports normal visual development in the fetus.

In short, the addition of omega-3 fats to the diet is important to maintaining both our physical and mental health.

The Omega Quant test is a simple at home kit, that can be purchased in our office.

Cost for the Omega Quant test is: $150*

Gluten Sensitivity Panel

Gluten sensitivity (GS) encompasses a collection of medical conditions in which gluten has an adverse effect. For individuals with gluten-sensitive enteropathy, removal of gluten generally results in the restoration of villus architecture or lower lymphocyte densities in the intestine. With some sensitivity, improvements may be seen in the neurological state, but a clinical finding may not be clear. GS also can affect blood chemistry, treatability of certain autoimmune diseases, and/or an untreated improvement in autoimmune conditions.

Gluten is composed of the sticky, storage proteins found in wheat. Gluten-sensitive enteropathy (GSE) can range from mild inflammation of the mucosa of the small intestine to severe celiac disease.
